UV (ultraviolet) light waves is gaining popularity as a safe and highly effective
method to purify the indoor air. This is because it can efficiently destroy
airborne pathogens such germs, viruses, and bacterias. In fact, the CDC
(Center for Disease Control) recommends UV light radiation as a method to prevent illness
and disease.
How does UV Air Purifier Work?
|
Ultraviolet rays from the sun (UV-C wavelength) will destroy pathogens such as
viruses, bacteria, mold, and mildew. This component of sunlight is the main reason that
microorganisms die in outdoor air. The UV-C light breaks the outer membrane of microbes
like yeast, mold, bacteria, viruses, fungus and destroys the DNA of these microbes,
UV germicidal lamps provide a more powerful and concentrated ultraviolet radiation. As the
air passes through the intense UV radiation, the DNA of many microorganisms are destroyed -
rendering them harmless and unable to reproduce.
Any germ, virus, or bacteria that is unable to reproduce is then harmless to humans and pets.
UV light purifiers are especially effective when used in combination with
central air conditioning systems in the home. When attached to your central air and
heating system, they use a small mercury vapor lamps to generate UV waves that kills mold,
bacteria, fungus, yeast and viruses. The system cleans and sterilizes the
entire home environment, including ducts and vents, and produces no odors or ozone emissions.

Other things to note ...
Of the various types of air-purifiers, only the UV air purifiers can effectively
destroy viruses and render them harmless.
However, UV purifiers have no affect on particulates such as dust, smoke, odors, gases or
chemical fumes. Therefore, it is often used in conjunction with other air purifying
technologies such as the HEPA system or negative ionizers.
